Thom Hammond - Fine Artist
The Artist with his First Assistant

 HIS VISION

This artist's vision of beauty springs from his Horse Crossing Studio, surrounded by black-eyed Susans and the sun dappled woods, down lanes of rustic barns and rolling meadows in sleepy Logan Township where the cranes feed freely in the willow-lined ponds.

   ABOUT THE ARTIST

Thom Hammond - Fine Artist

Thomas Hammond is a highly accomplished artist who likes to create a magical atmosphere and "old world mystique" in his paintings. As a boy he began drawing on visits that his family took to the romantic little town of Maastricht in southern Holland where his mother was born. Unable to speak the language, his summers were spent sketching and learning artistic insights from his Dutch Aunts and Uncles, many of whom still paint today.

His art training is both formal and practical. He received his formal education at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

His workshop experiences with nationally recognized artists such as Zoltan Szabo, Roberta Carter Clark, Florian Lawton, Paul McCormack, Tom Lynch and local instructor, Sandy Maudlin have provided him with his most practical and rewarding education.

Portraits of children, pets and homes hang in the homes and offices of local residents and collectors around the world.

 FROM THE ARTIST

I thoroughly enjoyed creating all the paintings included on this site because they all tell unique specific stories - either of children playing or remarkable homes and their striking landscapes or incomparable collectables. I'm a narrative painter and believe every painting should tell a story or depict an activity. It's also important to me to record everyday things and casual expressions and make them entertaining and special. Every painting should be an enriching experience to the viewer.

What I hope to accomplish is to create one-of-a-kind works of art that become personal treasures. Most of my works are collaborative ventures because they are commissioned. In other words, the buyer becomes part of the creative force that supplies the input that produces the artwork. Some people have requested family portraits, others had a few special photos of their child at play or at a party that they wanted to cherish forever. Pets, cars and parents are all potential paintings.

Today, art works are more accessible to the world's populace than ever before in history. The paints, brushes, canvases, papers and mediums are far superior than at any other time in mankind's existence and relatively more economic. The training one receives has been greatly enhanced because of video and DVD technology. Every home that generates happiness, activities, kids, pets and collectables can easily attain and display great works of art. Elitism, scarcity of artists and affordability are no longer an issue.

Fine art paintings are crafted by hand, made with care, and given whatever amount of time or trouble needed to ensure their quality and beauty. That's a rare claim in this age of mass production and easy expendability. Call or email for ideas and let's brainstorm the limitless possibilities of creating something truly unique, inspiring and timeless that will ultimately become a treasured family heirloom.
